Last Friday’s match resulted in a 15-12 loss for Davis, so ending the women’s lacrosse team’s season.
In a tumultuous first half, the Devils kept the game going at a breakneck pace. Back and forth scoring had both teams sprinting full field.
The first half concluded with Monte Vista ahead 10, Davis 8.
During the second half, strong defense and a penetrating offense gave the Mustangs a substantial advantage over the Devils, and Monte Vista gradually increased their lead.
Despite continued scoring and solid play from juniors Kyle Drexel, Ceci Cajandig and Monica Berry, the Mustangs charged ahead, ultimately winning 15-12.
Following the last game of the season, Jennifer Morris, the women’s lacrosse coach, said, “I’m just really impressed with how hard the girls worked this season, and how far they came. From the beginning at tryouts we were just not a together group, [but] they really worked hard and built a together team.”
The Devils faced Monte Vista earlier in the season in a lopsided contest that saw the locals lose by a much greater margin.
Cajandig noted as much, saying, “we played this team about six weeks ago before spring break, and we lost 16-4 so this game just shows how much we’ve improved over the season.”
Cajandig is looking forward to playing lacrosse again next year as a senior.
