Parents swarming, school maps scattering and bells buzzing; it must be Back to School Night.

On Sept. 27, the North Gym filled with wide-eyed parents, looking like panic-stricken sophomores on day one. Principal Jacqui Moore began the evening with a speech discussing her hopes for the school year.Moore said she wants students to “focus on learning and not on the grade.”

Back to School Night is an event that parents are encouraged to attend. According to vice principal Stacy Desideri, “parents are an important part of the Blue Devil Family.”

Desideri added that parents should be involved in their child’s education and that Back to School Night is a “good way to get to know teachers and schedules.”

Among the bustling halls of Davis High were hundreds of parents taking a walk in their students’  shoes. Physics teacher Scott Richardson, also a parent, sees the importance of parents taking this walk.

According to Richardson, “meeting the teachers and seeing the classrooms gives parents a taste of what it’s like to be [their child].”

Back to School Night was an opportunity for parents to be high-school students again, even if it was just for a few hours.
