Davis High decorates doors to celebrate homecoming
Students will soon get a chance to bond with their fourth period classes by decorating their classroom doors and maybe even their whole classrooms.
Door decorating is a student-run event at Davis High that begins on Oct.15 and is judged on Oct.17.
“Door decorating for homecoming is a fun way to get to see our students in a new light,” student government teacher Eric Morgan said. Morgan and his students grade on quality, creativity and the degree of effort and enthusiasm.
“I think the majority of classes will participate and have a lot of fun with it. From what I heard from the past, kids have a LOT of fun and go all out,” sophomore Sydney Maguire said. “My own class decorations, I don’t know yet, but I know they’ll be grand.”
The theme this year is Hogwarts houses from Harry Potter. Sophomores have Ravenclaw, juniors have Slytherin, seniors have Gryffindor, and Da Vinci has Hufflepuff.
“I think it going to be really cool. I’m really excited about the theme this year,” sophomore Tina Simpson said.
Usually the decoration is based off of the themes, but when a class has mixed grades the decoration goes with either the main idea of the theme, in this case Harry Potter; or the subject of their class.
“I really hope that students incorporate the different houses from Harry Potter and maybe the portraits guarding the house rooms or horcruxes,” Maguire said.
The classes’ involvement all depends on how much the students want to do. Some classes go to the extreme and some don’t do anything.
“One year my class had a full on haunted house. There was a coffin, ripped curtains, fake lightning, students jumping out everywhere and I was even scaring people with a chainsaw,” science teacher Eric Bastin said. “I had even bribed the judges with one of those big Costco chocolate cakes. I just wanted to win.”
