DHS greets new Athletic Director

Davis High held a barbecue in the quad on Tuesday, Aug.19, so staff and students could meet the new Athletic Director for the 2014-2015 school year, Jeff Lorenson.
Lorenson was chosen by the School Board before the end of the previous school year, and has spent the summer and weeks leading up to the start of school preparing for his new position.
“I can’t express how excited I am to be a part of Davis High School and the success that it has,” Lorenson said. “Everybody’s been so helpful [with the transition].”
Although Lorenson says he has already met every coach, he still looks forward to getting to know other staff members and students. At the barbecue, he spoke with DHS Principal Brown, varsity football game announcer Will Arnold, School Board member Sheila Allen and other members of the DHS community.
“He was ready to jump right in there,” Allen said of Lorenson, mentioning that he will be working in conjunction with the newly formed Coaches’ Council.
The Council, which was created partially due to the coaching controversy that took place during the previous school year, is made up of some of DHS’ “best coaches” who will monitor athletic policies and procedures and make recommendations if necessary.
Although there were a number of coaches and staff members at the barbecue, there was a scarcity of students—not surprising given that the school year has not yet begun.
Lorenson plans on meeting plenty of students once the year has started, and has already visited different sports’ practices, citing a 12:01 a.m. appearance at the field hockey Midnight Madness practice on August 7.
Lorenson was glad that the barbecue gave him a chance to connect with staff members, and is ready for the year to start. “I want to bring new ideas to this school,” he said.
Kellen Browning…a classy fellow. Always enjoy reading his work.
Thank you for your feedback, Owen Yancher.
