A strong Davis High men’s J.V. soccer defense was able to hold off an onslaught of Jesuit aggression and end Wednesday’s match in a 1-1 tie.
Co-captains Ryan Strong and Bobby Scott worked in sync as center backs cleaning up any mess that came their way, and made a formidable defensive pair.
In addition, forward right wing Eliot Williams and central midfield and striker Mads Barso kept Jesuit’s defense on guard with strong play.
As Strong and Scott worked hard to keep their line of defense strong and stable, Barso made the first goal of the game. Jesuit however quickly equalized with a goal of their own and the score held at 1-1 for the duration of the match.
With the tie, the Devils maintain their unbeaten season with six games under their belt.
“We started off shaky, not putting away our chances in the beginning of the season,” Strong said. “But I think today’s game showed our potential to match up with the top teams.”
Even though the game ended without a Blue Devil victory, the team was satisfied with holding off a powerful Marauder team.
“Jesuit is always THE game, so coming away with a tie was okay, but a win would have been nice of course,” Williams said.
“We played good and our freshmen stepped up big but we made one mental error which gave up the goal,” Strong said.
