Goals from three different Davis High players and mistakes from Pleasant Grove led the Devils to an overwhelming victory on Sept. 29. The JV men’s soccer team won the home game with a score of 5-0.
The first two goals of the game came in the first half. Kyle Cuvelier scored a quick goal in the beginning of the half and Sebastian Alvarado scored the second goal later on.
Freshman Kieran Swenson scored the third goal with an amazing diving header off of a well-placed corner kick from Cuvelier. Swenson felt “pretty happy” about his goal because he hadn’t scored yet this season.
The last two goals for DHS came from Pleasant Grove players. Both times the players accidentally kicked the ball into their own goal.
Captains Ryan Strong and Robert Scott contributed by playing shutdown defense and only let keeper Matt Hill touch the ball once.
During the middle of the second half, Aedan Enriquez took a fall and was moved to the sidelines. The medics suspected a fractured wrist and rushed him to the ER.
Despite the win, some Devils think they could have played better. “We played like trash today,” Hill said.
Coach Jesus Mata agreed that the team could have played better. “It was a little bit of an off day for us for whatever reason, but we hope to get our groove back going into a tough game against Grant on Wednesday,” Mata said.
