JV soccer squad takes physical win over Franklin

The Davis High men’s J.V. soccer takes 3-1 victory off solid play on defense and offense from sophomore Matt Hill.
Hill started in the goal box making saves and keeping the back line organized. Besides from a slip-up in the back which led to an unavoidable goal, Hill kept shots out and distributed the ball well which ended the second half with a score of 2-1.
10 minutes into the second half, it was 2-1 for Davis and Hill stepped on the field to get a tally of his own. With 15 minutes left in the game, freshman Kieran Swenson was fouled inside the box and the referee pointed to the penalty spot. Hill rose up to the challenge and slotted it into the bottom-right corner.
“It felt great to score especially with all my teammates cheering me on” Hill said.
The first goal was scored for Davis in the first 5 minutes by Ben Tang playing center forward who ran off a through-ball and tipped it over the goalie for an easy pass into the net.
Later in the first half, the second Davis goal was scored by Swenson who had on coming after a diving header attempt of a cross but the keeper made a save. The next cross to come, Swenson made sure to be there heading the ball into the top right corner making the score 2-1.
“We got caught early, […] but we shut the game down quickly afterwards” Coach Jesus Mata said.
The game was a physical one ending the game with one player from each team with a yellow card. Sophomore Andrew Raya suffered from an ankle injury and he might have to sit out in their next game.
