Defense. Ball movement. Athleticism.

These are the tenets of the Sheldon Huskies and the Huskies rode their defense and selfless play to rout the Davis High 92-65.

The Blue Devils were only down 24-17 after the first quarter, but everything began to fall apart after that.

The Huskies doubled up the Devils 18-9 in the second period and went on to outscore the locals 50-39 in the second half.

“”I thought we had little spurts throughout the game,” Gonzalez said. “Every time it looked like we were going to cut it to 15, 16, we just gave it right back to them. So that’s why it did feel close because there were moments that we could have cut into the lead, but we couldn’t do it consistently.”

It also did not help that the Blue Devils were without combo guard Drew Gnos, who dislocated his knee during Monday’s game against Jesuit. That injury has placed more pressure on Kevin Austin.

“It’s putting a lot more on Kevin’s shoulders, because I have to double shift him now, where we don’t pull him out for a few shifts,” Gonzalez explained. “That’s just putting a lot of pressure on him and Matt (Cheung) as well, who’s been sick for a while. If we had (Gnos) in this game, who knows? Maybe it’s a 10-point game and we’re in it towards the end.”

The Blue Devils take on the Franklin Wildcats next for Break the Record Night.
