Davis High’s Varsity Women’s Tennis team won against Cosumnes Oaks, 9-0 on Tuesday in their last home game until playoffs.
To rally up the team before the game, both coaches lined up their players and everyone clapped while names were announced and two people at a time ran down the line.
“Everyone was up the whole game and we did the best we could.” Sophomore Michela Gunther said. The singles games ended up with 6-1 and 6-3, 6-0 and 6-3, 6-1 and 6-0, 6-0 and 6-0, 6-0 and 6-3 and 6-3 and 6-4.
In the league, Davis is ranked 3rd in the Delta League Womens. This win propelled them up the standings with St. Francis still holding 1st place having an overall score of 17-1.
According to MaxPreps.com, Davis’s opposing team is averaged about 58.58 percent of the time while Davis wins about 64.44 percent. Right now, Davis’ standings are 7-2 overall.
Junior Elizabeth Mei McConnell finished first out of the entire team and still had a lot of time before anyone else finished. She finished with 6-0 and 6-0.
Though Davis’ victory against Cosumnes Oaks was expected, “you never know, teams change” coach Sally Hosley said. Davis has won against Cosumnes many times before so this win was not very surprising to the players and the coach.
“Everyone played their personal best today and I think we will do well at playoffs” Hosley said.
Davis will next play Pleasant Grove High on Friday Oct. 18.
