Review: Insomnia Cookies lacks quality, but is convenient

Never again will Davis High students suffer when it is 2 a.m. and all they crave are some nice, warm cookies, instead of sleep.
Insomnia Cookies, which came to Davis on Oct. 1, is a dessert company known for their late night (or even morning) deliveries that started in a University of Pennsylvania dorm room.
The store, located at 202 E St. in downtown Davis, is one of over 100 stores the company operates, but it the first and only one in California.
Cookies, milk, ice cream and various dessert sandwiches and combos can all be delivered until 3 a.m., easily marketing to the dorm life of UC Davis. Though the cost of delivery itself is only $3, customers must buy at least $6 worth of treats, with individual cookies at $1.70, quickly racking up the price.
On a Thursday evening, I went on the website to order cookies for delivery. The website was extremely easy to use and ordering was definitely easier than walking downstairs to try to make my own cookies.
The warm, though somewhat greasy treats arrived right at my front door in a little over half an hour.
Late on a Friday night, nearing their primetime, the order took an hour, much longer than the website estimated.
Growing impatient, I went back to the website and soon discovered their best feature: the Cookie Tracker. I was able to watch on a map of Davis as my precious desserts made their way to my house.
The cookies were even better than before, perfectly satisfying my midnight sugar craving.
The snickerdoodle was by far my favorite: so seamlessly soft and crunchy. Close behind was the similar sugar cookie. A surprising third place was the double chocolate mint cookie, balancing the chocolate overload with a subtle hint of mint.
Oatmeal raisin was just disappointing, keeping the worst of the cookie (raisins) but leaving out the best (oatmeal, which was barely noticeable).
Though their famous cookies are extremely convenient, they don’t even compare with homemade cookies, let alone those at Nugget or Village Bakery. These greasy snacks are much more on par with Cream.
Though the quality of their baked goods could definitely be higher, the cookies are warm and delivered with the touch of a button. What more could one ask for when you have a late night cookie craving?
molly burke was supposed to try these cookies with me but instead she ditched me and did it with other hub writers so here is my insomnia review:
the cookies are slightly average. the ones with chocolate chunk or that are chocolately are a tad above average, however their snicker-doodle and others bring it back down. now, i have a large cookie addiction, so the fact that i can now pay a cheap price to have my favorite sweet delivered??? it has brought me a lot of joy– and maybe a few more pounds. oops. i also enjoy that they warm up the cookies so they are nice & gooey AND they offer ice cream sandwiches options.
PRO TIP: go get insomnia cookies and then ask the davis creamery to put ice cream on them to make a sandwich. they will gladly do it, and even have “cow pie” or ice cream sandwich specials for this reason.
overall a 6-7/10 rating bc of convenience vs. quality. basically i agree with molly’s review even if she ditched me.
