To teach is more than the act of giving knowledge. For Donna Price, teaching is sharing her passions and joy with students.
Before Price pursued her dreams of becoming a teacher, she worked as a secretary and in catering simultaneously for 20 years to help pay her way through college. Price was born in Los Angeles, where her family has lived in the West Coast area before California became a state.
Donna went to school in Sacramento where she didn’t have a good experience with her teachers growing up. This served as the fuel and motivation for her to become a great teacher herself.
Price has a bachelor’s degree in journalism and teaches English as well as social studies at Davis High. “I love my subjects. And when somebody else gets that subject, and they do much better in it, that’s what keeps me teaching,” Price said.
Price spends her spare time reading or traveling out of state and finding historical museums across the country.
Price taught online school starting in March and began teaching at DHS at the start of the 2020-21 school year. She was previously interested in computer programming but ultimately decided to pursue a career in teaching.
“Online teaching is a little bit hard for teachers and students, but if you’re good with technology then it can be manageable,” Price said.
