Seniors had an opportunity to take the SAT at Davis High on Oct. 13. It was the first offered locally since last spring.
CollegeBoard, the company that runs SAT testing, set official fall test dates on Aug. 28, Oct. 2 and Nov. 6. Despite these dates being all Saturdays, DHS held its SAT on Wednesday which “came as a surprise” to senior Jessica Westworth.
Students were directed to sign up with a Google Form and pay through the DHS Webstore. Due to the influx of responses, registration quickly became overwhelmed and shut down signups only days after the test had been announced.
Room assignments were announced starting Oct. 4. To keep up with COVID social distancing guidelines, many students found themselves in unofficial testing rooms outside of the DHS campus.
“While it was a strange setting, I appreciated the effort DHS put into finding us spaces to take the test,” said Shaan Sylvain, who took the test at the Christ Church of Davis.
Many seniors were especially grateful to be able to take the test locally, despite the unconventional methods. The COVID-19 pandemic has continued to affect testing nationally and many testing centers have experienced closings and other issues with administering the exam.
“I’m excited and ready to take it. My other day was cancelled so I had to reschedule at the last minute,” senior Eli Papagni said.
