2017 Davis High graduate, Tucker Fisk, has recently announced that he has been signed to the Atlanta Falcons NFL team.
Fisk went undrafted during the NFL draft on April 28-30 but was signed by the Falcons on May 16 and now has a chance to make the team.
“I’m most excited to, assuming I make the team, play against people that I’ve seen on T.V. before,” Fisk said.
Fisk started practicing football at the age of 9 with his father, and former NFL player Jason Fisk. Due to this he was able to gain extra experience and wisdom from his father that not all players are able to get.
“Anytime I had a question or anything that I was struggling with on the football field, I could ask him and he would have basically the answer,” Fisk said.
His father continuously inspired him, and gave him the initial spark of interest in the sport and continues to inspire him to this day.
“My 9 year old self just saw him do it and thought that it was cool, and so I wanted to do it to follow in his footsteps probably at a young age,” Fisk said.
Throughout his childhood of learning to play football, he loved every moment of it which is why he decided to play on the highschool football team.
In Fisk’s senior year his team qualified for the playoffs for the first time and managed to win the first game. “Winning that game was probably the highlight of my high school career,” Fisk said.
Along with his father’s inspiration, the DHS team gave him that confidence to keep going and thrive at the sport that he loves.
“Before highschool, I liked football, I would say that I discovered a passion for the game during my time in highschool,” said Fisk.
The DHS team had some success throughout his career, especially during his senior year.
“My sophomore year, we went 2-8, my junior year, we might have gone 3-7, and my senior year, I think that our final record was only like 5-6, but we made playoffs and that was a goal that I had,” said Fisk.
After graduating from DHS, Fisk played football for Stanford University which gave him the experience to keep his dream of being in the NFL alive.
“When I was little, I definitely thought about it (being on an NFL team), I guess dreamt about it, but it’s also not something that I ever thought necessarily was like within grasp,” Fisk said.
Fisk has obtained many awards throughout high-school and college careers including being the 2016 Sac-Joaquin Section Defensive Player of the Year according to the Atlanta Falcons team website.
Later on at Stanford, he earned the Jack Huston Award which he got during his fifth season with the team in 2021.
“(It is) Basically an award that is given on the Stanford football team, that is voted by players, and it basically is who the team thinks is the hardest working, toughest senior on the team,” Fisk said.
Due to him being an undrafted free-agent he will have to battle for a roster spot and will face an uphill battle to make the team.
“At the moment, I’ve gotten signed which is essentially just a shot, or a chance, to make the team,” Fisk said.
Working hard and achieving those life-long goals is what Fisk has done and what he will continue to do.
“I learned from those years that when you put in years and years of hard work and effort, you can actually accomplish what you’re setting out to do,” Fisk said.
