Davis High’s Take a Hike Club is a group on campus that organizes events with the goal of appreciating nature and building community.
Their first event of the school year, spike ball in the park, happened on Sept. 24 at the Farmer’s Market.
The purpose of Take a Hike Club is to enjoy, take in and appreciate one’s surroundings.
The club strives to “help (students) balance the stress of school by getting outside,” Co-President Evelyn Soller said.
Saturday’s event consisted of friendly conversation with club members, people watching, garden strolling and indeed some spikeball. It lasted from 10:30 a.m. until about 1:30 p.m.
And according to club officers, the club aims to give students exposure to nature in a way they haven’t experienced before.
“(We want to) take people somewhere new they haven’t been before,” Soller said.
Soller said that she has been surprised at the number of people at DHS who’ve never been camping. She said that that’s something she would like to change.
Senior Mick Dunning is a current member of the club and said that his favorite part of participating is “how the leaders of the club really… (make) sure everyone has the best experience possible.”
