The PSAT provides students an opportunity to gauge their readiness for the looming SAT.

The 2022 PSAT took place on Oct. 15, for both sophomores and juniors.

Students have a variety of reasons for taking the test.

Junior Isabella Blevins took the PSAT last year and is taking it again. “If I do well I could also qualify for scholarships,” Blevins said.

The test takes about three hours with time limits on each of the four sections, math multiple choice, math free response, grammar and reading comprehension.

Taking the test for a second time gives students an opportunity to prepare more efficiently. “I feel better about it this year because I know what to expect and have a few for the amount of time given for each section,” Blevins said.

A handbook with practice problems was given out to the students that registered for the test in order to give first time PSAT takers a sense of how the test would be structured.

Junior Mona Doulakis took the test for the first time on Oct. 15.

“I didn’t take it last year because I would rather see what I need to work on for the actual SAT,” Doulakis said. “I would have learned new things in the year between the PSAT and the actual SAT.”

Though many schools do not look at SAT scores they can still be helpful when applying. “I think that it’s a good idea to have test scores under your belt just in case. It’s a good thing to have in any case so might as well suffer through it,” Doualkis said.
