Students, staff and teachers gathered at 2 p.m. on Nov. 18 outside the Richard Brunelle Performance Hall at Davis High to commemorate the start of construction of the new science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) building, which will be located just east of the theater.
Superintendent Matt Best, DHS Principal Bryce Geigle and Board of Education President Tom Adams attended the event, along with site and district staff who worked on the project.
Sixth period photography, science and math students attended the event with their classes.
“I think definitely STEM is a 21st century learning (need) and it really fosters what we believe in here at Davis High,” Geigle said.
The $32 million project was partially funded by Measure M and bond measures.
The STEM building includes art, science and photography classrooms, supplementing the new robotics rooms in the CTE building.
Roebbelen Construction was hired for the project, and plans to complete it over the next few months.
“I just want to say a big thank you to the Davis voters,” Best said. “It’s their votes that make projects like this happen.”
