Homecoming dance ignites celebration of life

Once a year, the students at Davis Senior High School take a moment to celebrate their shared love of community in a lively dance. The dance marks the end of the quarter and a new beginning for students eager for worldliness and connection.
Homecoming is a group effort involving the invaluable efforts of students and staff to make this innate celebration a reality. “The energy is super fun,” sophomore Liliana Teage said. “You see a whole different side of people.”
The efforts of the students and staff give students a chance to step outside any preconceived notions of themselves or one another. Homecoming is an invaluable chance for students to get to know one another in and outside their comfort zone.
A balloon arch signifies the dance floor, where students disappear into music and forget about the immortal love of life and its prospects. “It’s very spirited.” Sophomore Raina Morshed said.
Like a pulsing heartbeat, the students dance across the floor. The stage is their canvas. But they perform for no one but themselves. Students chant to the immortal words of Andy Gibb and Taylor Swift, amplifying the music to fit their boundless energy and celebration of youth.
Sparklers dancing like a blazing campfire sit by the window, welcoming the new students to a celebration, forever young. “Literally fire,” senior River Salinas said.
