On September 10th, the DHS varsity women’s flag football team took on their rivals: the St. Francis Troubadours. The Troubadours beat Davis 34-12.
Davis has been focusing on refining their offense, having only scored one touchdown throughout their last three games. Their hard work in practice was shown through their greatly improved offense on Tuesday.
Despite the loss, Davis scored two touchdowns and sophomore quarterback Landry Clark was able to connect multiple passes to other offensive players.
St. Francis started with the ball and eventually scored the first touchdown of the game, but Davis was ready to counter.
During Davis’ first set of downs, Clark completed a long pass to senior Boyeon Choi, earning them a new first down. DHS went on to complete two more passes, bringing them closer and closer to the endzone.
Finally, Davis got on the scoreboard as junior Sonia Clayton ran deep into the endzone and caught the ball thrown by Clarke.
“[Scoring] was really exciting…The energy was used throughout the game and we were able to rally behind that first [touchdown],” Clayton said.
Simultaneously, the Blue Devils were hustling to pull flags and get even with St. Francis’ many interceptions on defense. Junior Ariana Rodriguez-Lopez contributed with two interceptions to get Davis the ball back and give them momentum.
The team is headed to Del Oro High School Thursday for their first away game, still hoping for their first win.
“We need to keep the energy up and stay positive,” Clayton said. “If we go down at the start, we need to stay positive and get back up.”
