The DHS women’s varsity volleyball team hustled despite losing in three sets at home against Rocklin Sept. 25. Rocklin is the number one team in the Sierra Foothill League and the number two ranked team in the Sac-Joaquin Section.

The Devils started off hot, up 9-3 in the first set, but Rocklin quickly made up for their slow start and won the first set 25-19.

The second set was even closer than the first, with junior Catherine Hanson serving an ace to tie the game at 19-19. In the end Rocklin ended up squeezing out a win in the second set: 25-22.

In the third and final set Davis dug deep, tying the game up six times. But once again, Rocklin pulled out ahead and won the final set 25-19.

“We came into this knowing it was going to be a difficult game, but we played our hardest and made them compete,” junior Cate Wells said.

The Blue Devils were diving on the floor nearly every play in efforts to keep a rally going against Rocklin’s powerful spikes.

After their loss, the team is now 1-5 in league play, but each game the Blue Devils continue to hustle and keep games tight against talented teams.

“I think that in this league we are coming into a lot of hard competition so we have to remember that we have nothing to lose,” junior Madeline Shull said.
