The Davis High flag football team defeated Folsom with a final score of 26-0 on October 8.

Davis started the game brilliantly with a pick-6 by junior Sonia Clayton, who intercepted a Folsom throw and ran the ball to a touchdown, giving the Devils a 6-0 lead.

The rest of the first half was a defensive battle, with both teams driving the ball but unable to come up with points. Senior Alexxa Ascencio made a key flag pull on fourth down to give the devils the ball back and prevent Folsom from scoring.

On the second drive, senior quarterback Oliva Koehler connected with senior Amber Malik on a pass that ended in a 50+ yard gain. Koehler then completed a pass to sophomore Margot Lubell for the touchdown.

The Devils carried this momentum into their next drive where Koehler would run the ball in herself for a touchdown, losing her defenders on the way there. With a score of 20-0 and three minutes left in the game, an interception by junior Ariana Lopez set up Koehler for her second rushing touchdown of the night, putting the game away.

“At the start of the game I was in my head but my teammates were able to calm me down and allow me to get into a rhythm,” Koehler said.

Despite it being late in the season, this was Koehler’s third game playing quarterback. Previously a running back, an injury to the team’s starting quarterback forced Koehler to pivot and switch her position.

“I think we needed this win to give us the confidence to do well in our upcoming league games,” Koehler said.
