In one of the final league games of the season, the Davis High women’s varsity water polo team defeated the Oak Ridge Trojans 23-5, on Oct. 21, at Arroyo Pool.

The win marks their seventh consecutive win.

Oak Ridge scored the first goal, putting Davis behind 1-0. Davis quickly came back, scoring three consecutive goals, ending the quarter up 3-2.

Davis came out strong in the second quarter, increasing their lead to 7-4.

Midway through the quarter, sophomore goalie Hazel Beatty blocked a shot by Oak Ridge, which was quickly followed by a goal from sophomore Aiva Mann.

Beatty was commended by head coach Jamey Wright, “she’s very athletic and very agile,” Wright said. “She covers up for it if someone makes a mistake.”

Davis continued putting up points, entering halftime up 12-4.

Throughout the third quarter, sophomore Addie Sinclair dominated the pool, scoring three goals. “She played amazing with her steals, shoots and tactics,” junior Abygail Campbell said.

Oak Ridge was unable to score any goals during the last quarter due to Davis’ strong defense. The game ended with a final score of 23-5.

The win ties Davis with Granite Bay for the top spot in the Sierra Foothill League. Both teams now have a league win-loss record of 9-1, putting Davis in contention for the league title.

Though the Blue Devils won the game, Wright believed it was not their best performance. “It was good, but our team is better than that,” Wright said.
