The Blue Devils men’s varsity soccer defeated the Central Valley Hawks 3-0 on Dec. 12. Davis started the game strong with numerous scoring opportunities.

The first goal came early in the first half from senior David Gomez-Esparta, assisted by senior Johan Saeij-Torreiro, putting the Devils in the lead. They maintained strong defense, preventing the Hawks from scoring, and finished the first half up 1-0.

Davis came out strong after the half with a goal from senior Cody Walsh within the first two minutes. “I think we’ve had a few promising performances,” Walsh said. “More quality and chemistry will come with time.”

The game concluded with senior Brody Bair scoring, securing a 3-0 victory for the Devils.

Head coach Alex Park is pleased with the team’s performance but wants to work on “coming out strong at the start of the game.”

The defense stopped the Hawks from scoring and allowed very few shots on goal. Junior Zachary Shroeder was a key player in the defense. “[Zachary] was able to lock down their best player,” Park said.

Junior Nolan Wingo, starting his first game on varsity, was also a key player in the backfield. “I am slowly earning my spot on the team,” Wingo said.
