Davis High men’s varsity basketball played an aggressive game against Folsom High on Wednesday, Jan. 8.

Within the first two minutes, senior Jamie MacDonald scored the first shot of the game, followed by a layup from senior DJ Michel, giving the Blue Devils the lead 4-0.

The Blue Devils remained consistent in fierce defense and ambitious offensive moves. Freshman Rhys Crawford blocked multiple attempted shots by Folsom.

“I pride myself on being a two-way player, so defense is a big focus for me,” Crawford said. “I’m a shot blocker, and that is what I bring to the team,”

At the half, Davis was down 44-22.

As a top-ten-team in the state, Folsom’s competitiveness was as expected. Even so, the Blue Devils never backed down. They remained engaged and kept the intensity up for the entire game, all the way until the last basket.

“We definitely came into this game wanting to set the tone and letting them know that they’re not just gonna get easy layups on us,” Michel said.

The game ended with Folsom winning 80-43.

“We’re just trying to build what they have. It’s gonna take some time, but we’re willing to put in the work,” head coach Stephen Smith said. “I think we took a step toward the direction we’re trying to get to.”
