Strong winds blew across Dewey Halden Field as the women’s soccer team reached a stalemate against the Folsom Bulldogs in their fifth league matchup of the season on Jan. 11.

Both teams entered the game with almost identical records, and the final score of 0-0 reflected how evenly matched they were.

Folsom started with the ball, and Davis began displaying their effective defense that continued throughout the night.

“Defensively, we were strong and connected,” captain senior Miya Alamares said. “But when it came to offense, we had a much harder time staying on the same page.”

Although the Blue Devils made many attempts to score, the team struggled to put one in the net.

One of their closest attempts came with 15 minutes remaining in the first half. Alamares delivered an impressive cross from the left corner of the field, and junior Jordan Meade got a foot on the ball. Despite the effort, Folsom’s goalkeeper saved the shot.

Junior goalkeeper Aubrey McLin made two stellar saves to keep Folsom off the scoreboard in the final minutes of the first half.

Davis continued their defensive streak in the second half. “We were able to communicate a lot and cover each other’s backs [on defense],” junior Madison Lujan said.

Davis tallied their second consecutive tied game, which puts them at third in league play.

“Even though we weren’t able to score, I do think we did a much better job getting ourselves into dangerous positions in the final third,” Alamares said.
