Men’s basketball secures first league win

The men’s basketball team secured a league win in their match against Del Oro on Jan. 17. Both Del Oro and Davis had been on a 4-game losing streak. 

The evenly matched teams led to a slow-paced first quarter, ending 9-9 due to multiple turnovers. The pace picked up in the second and third quarters, with Davis scoring 14 and 17 points, respectively.

“During the second quarter they made a run on us and for most of the year when people make a runoff we have trouble stopping runs but today we responded and got the lead back,” head coach Stephen Smith said. 

Despite Del Oro closing much of the gap in the fourth quarter, crucial free throws by senior Jordan McMurray and a layup by junior Ahmere Bradley sealed the win for the Blue Devils.

Their first win in the new Delta League brought great relief to the team after a hard loss the week before.
