DHS men’s varsity soccer dominated Folsom with a 1-0 shutout on Jan. 21.
Davis dominated possession of the ball with senior Oliver Fleet and freshman Cruz Gonzales persisting with offensive attacks and crosses into the box.
Davis defenders helped to push the ball up the field, while goalie senior Dylan Hotaling stopped multiple attempts to score by Folsom.
The Blue Devils ended the first half tied with Folsom, 0-0.
In the first few minutes of the second half, sophomore Eli Mas found the back of the net, and Davis took the lead 1-0.
“It was good to get [a goal] against a team that’s playing pretty defensively,” senior Cody Walsh said.“We were able to work it down the sideline and then Eli […] was able to finish it off.”
The Blue Devils put the pressure on Folsom, with numerous crosses and near-miss shots bouncing off the post. The game ended in a 1-0 win.
“I thought we dominated the game,” head coach Alex Park said. “We had a dozen more shots than [Folsom] did”.
Walsh also felt that the team played well. “We’re getting more used to playing together,” Walsh said. “We saw more variety, more options to play and get into the final third and score.”
However, Park sees that there is room for improvement. “I thought we could have scored a lot more goals,” he said.
The team is aiming to win the section “We have five more league games,” Walsh said. “If we put those out we’ll win league, and then hopefully we win all the playoff games and win sections.”
