The Davis High women’s varsity basketball team battled their rivals, the Saint Francis Lancers, for their Senior Night on Feb. 14. Davis fought hard but ultimately lost 60-56.

Despite the loss, the league standings remain the same with the Blue Devils fourth and the Lancers fifth.

Although Saint Francis won the tip-off, Davis scored first with a three-pointer by Lorelai Nachman. Possession went back and forth, but they continued dominating throughout the first half, connecting passes and shooting confidently. “Lorelai, our shooter, was just on fire,” junior Riley MacDonald said.

Davis had the most successful first half of their season, scoring 41 points, but Saint Francis remained a threat with 31 points.

As Davis entered the second half, their momentum faltered. “It wasn’t really our defense or turnovers or anything, we just couldn’t make a shot,” MacDonald said. As the Devils struggled to score points, the Lancers stayed consistent, doubling their points by the end of the game.

“I think also just the shots not falling added to the attitude towards the game,” junior Sonia Clayton said. “We just weren’t able to bring full energy.”

While the team was disappointed in the tough loss, this is not the end of their season. “I think we’re excited for playoffs,” senior Izzy Cherry said. “I think this is motivation, to be honest. Every game we play, we have fun out there and everyone is super passionate about this game so we’re all excited.”
