Hello, Homecoming

This year’s loss at the DHS football Homecoming showed that winnings is not everything.
The Blue Devils played a tough game, and although the score showed 42-28, what it didn’t reflect was the personal victories of several players.
Not only was this the biggest point total since their first game of the season, when powerhouse running back Courtney Williams was still playing, this game was also a turning point for many players regarding personal achievements. “Shayne Reagan showed so much guts, he’s playing as good as any quarterback in the league,” varsity coach Steve Smyte said.
The game which began at 7:15 p.m., kicked off with high sprits, and a blue ocean of fans cheering for the Blue Devils.
DHS started off strong, capturing 40 yards in the first 30 seconds of the game, thanks to a successful run by defensive back Dillard Brown. Three minutes later, Davis finally secured a touchdown by means of a direct pass from quarterback Shayne Reagan to tight end Peter Smith. Samantha Houck kicked the extra point, resulting in a score of 7-0, Davis.
With only five minutes left in the first quarter Laguna Creek matched the score 7-7 with a touchdown by No. 24, Don Jackson. But, Davis quickly pulled ahead in the second quarter with a victorious corner route play leading to a touchdown by Reagan and retrieved by Peter Smith. Houck kicked the point after. Davis was in the lead again.
But the opponents weren’t giving in. One minute after the DHS touchdown, Laguna Creek scored three times and drastically modified the score 28-14. Laguna’s No. 24, Jackson, played a vital part in all three touchdowns, and the outcome of the game in general. “Take 24 out and we would have had a different game,” Smyte said.
After a few ineffectual attempts to score, Davis finally made a successful touchdown thanks to 32 and 17 yard gains by Majed Eddin, a throw by Reagan, and a catch by Smith, altering the score 28-21, Laguna ahead by a touchdown.
In the last half of the game, Laguna brought it all to the table with two more touchdowns and field goals. Davis strived to bounce back and scored one final touchdown. The ending score was 42-21, Laguna Creek for the win. “I was disappointed defensively, but we did as much as we could do with who we had,” Smyte said. He also added that better tackling would have led to a better outcome.
“[Brown] was fabulous,” and “Peter Smith made some monster catches, [Eddin] turned little things into big things,” Smyte said.
