Forever 21 Grand Opening
Recently, Davis acquired one of its only large clothing stores, aside from the downtown Gap. Squeezed in between Starbucks and Cost Plus World Market in the University Mall, is a brand new Forever 21. The new store fills the space where Gottschalks used to be, which went out of business in June of 2009.The store opened for business on April 1, but the official grand opening took place on April 2. There was a huge turn out of young shoppers eager to be the first ones in the new store. The store also advertised that they would hand out gift cards to the first 200 people.
“It was insane,” Forever 21 employee Michelleia Moore said. “Some girls were already outside waiting when we closed the night before. Some of them waited there all night.” By 7 that morning, over 100 shoppers were waiting in line outside. By the time the store opened at 10, the line reached all the way out to the street. Forever 21 is mainly a store for young girls, but the store does have a small men’s section. It also contains designated rooms for an accessories department, a lingerie department, and a shoe department.
