DHS Men’s Lacrosse Team Devours St Mary’s
The younger players of the Davis Blue Devils Varsity Lacrosse team sent their seniors out with a bang with an 11-1 win on Senior Night at Ron & Mary Brown stadium.
The win came at the h
ands of the visiting St Mary’s Panthers of Berkeley whom the Blue Devils (9-7, 5-3) had beaten early in the season 14-0 in the East Bay.
In front of a small but enthusiastic crowd of about 70, the Blue Devils started off strong with a goal by junior Midfielder Carson Stone in the first 5 seconds of the game. “Carson is just a great player and he really helps us in all aspects of the game especially in face offs where he dominates over other teams,” varsity head coach Nick Juri said.
The Devils did not let up with goals by freshman midfielder Daniel Rowan, sophomore attack man Mikie Schlosser, sophomore midfielder Ryan Geary, and senior midfielder Dillard Brown to round out the first quarter.
Probably the more exciting of those first quarter goals was that of Brown who used his wide receivers speed to cut through the St. Mary’s defense but ended up on his back thanks to a Panthers defenseman. Unfortunately for St. Mary’s, just before Brown was hit he managed to shoot and score for his first goal of the game.
“Dillard’s goal was just great, it really boosted morale around the guys and made everyone feel better,” assistant coach Jimmy Sherrer said.
The Devils also received goals from senior Craig Snipes, senior Spencer Woo, and freshman Mark Bruemmer. The Devils end the season Friday night with an away game at Piedmont High School who defeated the Devils earlier this season, 14-11 in Davis.
