Ke$ha delivers impressive performance
A long line of glitter, neon and animal print-wearing pop music fans stretched outside the UC Davis ARC Pavilion, where hundreds of teens, college students and adults awaited the “Animal” and “Cannibal” herself, Ke$ha.
The night began with opening act Spank Rock, an alternative rap group from Baltimore, Maryland. Spank Rock’s fast beats and enthusiastic band members Naeem Juwan and Alex Epton kept the crowd in good spirits as they awaited the headlining performers. As the crowd on the floor level began to grow, so did its energy level.
Headliner LMFAO started their performance off with outrageous props such as huge inflatable zebras and a cardboard box robot head. They performed their newest single “Sexy and I Know It”, before moving onto other singles such as “La, La, La”, “YES” and the Jersey Shore theme song, “Get Crazy.”
The dance group Quest Crew helped pump up the concert-goers during “Champagne Showers,” when they held a dance battle and somersaulted over the stage. Band members Redfoo and Sky Blu, along with their background dancers, saved their popular single, “Party Rock Anthem,” for last, ending their performance shuffling along with the crowd.
A brief break after LMFAO allowed concertgoers to hydrate with water, Powerade and sodas, sold upstairs for the hefty price of $3 to $3.50 per bottle. Next to the food and beverage stand was the concert merchandise, where glittery t-shirts and other memorabilia could be purchased.
Ke$ha walked out to the screams of eager fans and performed on metal scaffolding flashing with lights. Dressed in a black corset and wearing light-up glasses, the singer began her performance with “Sleazy,” kicking the crowd’s energy into high gear. She moved onto popular songs from her two albums, such as “Blow,” “Party at a Rich Dude’s House,” “Cannibal,” “Blah Blah Blah,” “Backstabber” and “Dinosaur” before concluding with two massive hits, “Tik Tok” and “We R Who We R.”
Ke$ha’s performance was strong and confident as she effortlessly breezed through the thumping dance anthems. She showed off her softer, more melodic talents with “Animal,” her favorite of the songs she wrote, as she told the audience. She established a connection with the audience with the first song and kept it throughout, delighting the crowd with her saucy remarks and special effects like showers of gold glitter and balloons.
Ke$ha made the effort to make her performance fresh and entertaining, and it was clearly worth it: the concertgoers left thoroughly satisfied and exhausted from dancing.
