With two wins under its belt, the DHS football team is gaining new respect and larger audiences from its fan base.
On Friday, Sept. 9, over 1,500 fans showed up to watch the Blue Devils beat Sacramento High 28-12, the team’s second win of the year.
Junior Adriana Defty came to the game to cheer on the team in hopes for a second win. She believes that the large amount of fans had something to do with the team’s first win against Armijo on Sept. 2.

“I think everyone was excited about the varsity football team’s first win and wanted to come show their support!” Defty said.

However, junior and Blue Devil varsity lineman Brian Stabenfeldt didn’t think that there was much correlation between the number of fans and the first win of the year.

“Well, I’d say a pretty good amount of people come out to the home games regardless; before that game we were just 1-0 like last year so I don’t think it played that big of a role,” Stabenfeldt said.

“I know that a lot of guys on the team were telling everyone to go so that might have been a factor in how many people went,” he added.

Still, Stabenfeldt has noticed a difference in people’s opinion of the team.
“Winning the first two games in a row hasn’t been done here at DHS for [several] years, so coming off a 1-9 season, I’m sure a lot of people are taking notice about the new attitude of this year’s team and thinking more highly about us,” he said.
Defty agreed that her own view of the team changing.
“I had a good feeling about this year’s team, but I honestly didn’t know what to expect. As soon as they won their first game, that’s when I really started to believe that the guys were going to have a great season,” Defty said.
“I really think they have a good chance of making it to the playoffs,” she added. “Go Blue Devils!”
