Dedicated sportswriter inducted into DHS Hall of Fame
Of the 75 nominations from the Davis community, six esteemed individuals were selected for the fourth year of the DHS hall of fame – Davis Enterprise sportswriter Bruce Galludet was one of them.
“Everyone in the room [of selection committee members] said ‘Of course’, “ said Miriam Fisk, administrator of the Hall of Fame selection committee.
“I thought it was a joke,” Gallaudet said. “I’m still in shock.”
Gallaudet received the news of his induction in May, and said he has had “countless sleepless nights about what I’m going to say.”
The induction ceremony, presented by the DHS Blue and White Foundation, will be held on Oct. 8 at Freeborn Hall. The reception will be from 6-7 p.m., and the ceremony itself will take place between 7-8 p.m.
According to Fisk, the Hall of Fame ties alumni back to the community and past. “It’s amazing, the people who have come from DHS.”
Gallaudet falls under the friends and benefactors category; among his fellow inductees are Nobel Prize winner and DHS graduate Carol Greider, and Jason Fisk, 12 year NFL veteran and founder of the Blue and White Foundation.
Gallaudet has been recognized throughout the Davis community for his enthusiasm in covering DHS sports. “It’s always my pleasure to sit down and talk to [a student].”
“Through his writing he has always been very supportive,” Fisk said. “He truly loves Davis High.”
“I’m amazed by the honor and deeply humbled by it,” Gallaudet said. “I’m trying to show to the community through my writing what’s best about the Blue Devils”
Amy, I am sorry I am just getting this thank you to you — and The Hub staff — for featuring me in your newspaper. I always enjoy visiting Kelly’s classes and we are proud at The Enterprise of the dozens of Hub staffers who have served as interns, correspondents and full-fledged reporters or editors at our paper. Amy, great job making me actually look good. Not so sure about the picture, but hey, what can you do? It’s me. Thanks again.
