Devils conquer Cardinals
The DHS women’s varsity tennis team won their last home match of the season decisively against Laguna Creek on Tuesday, Oct. 18.
Laguna Creek’s top player, Tiffany Pham, is ranked second in the USTA Northern California Rankings, and has proved to be a challenge in the past. However, the final outcome was DHS’ win of 9-0.
Ines Guinard, DHS’ top player, played against Pham. They were very friendly with each other during their warm-up.
During their match, their rallies varied in length, but all of them shared a high intensity.
“I’ve played her six times and lost every time,” said Guinard. However, this time she managed to dominate Pham, and win 6-0 6-1.
“It was a big challenge for her,” said coach Sally Hosley. She was pretty confident that DHS would win 9-0 after that match was over.
All of the other matches ended with results like Guinard’s, making mincemeat of their opponents.
She felt that this win was confidence-boosting for the team. She was proud of Ines for overcoming a challenge, and said that it was “overall a good day.”
