Students deem parking lots chaotic

DHS has approximately 1670 students as of last year, with more than half at the legal age for driving.

DHS has only two student parking lots for all of these students. That, combined with only two entryways to each parking lot leads to considerable traffic around the campus, especially right before and after school, according to senior Nathan Leung.

The traffic often snares up the roads around campus, causing some students to jump out of their cars (if they are being driven by parents) and run to class rather than park and then get out.

“I’ve heard a lot of horror stories about the parking lot,” sophomore Mandy Chen said.

This has discouraged many sophomores from choosing to drive or be driven to school. Sophomore Marco Gomes said driving is only worth it if a student lives far enough away.

Senior Britney Grafton says the traffic situation has improved since last year.

However, “it’s still pretty stressful,” Grafton said. “Lots of inexperienced drivers.”
