The JV women’s soccer team conquered Elk Grove High School, Thursday, April 26. DHS set itself up for a strong end of the season with an 8-0 victory.

Coach Robert Smith described the day as “a soccer day in paradise” due to the gleaming sun that highlighted the team’s solid win.

The game started strong with DHS keeping the playing just feet from the opponent’s goal. Freshman Jaha McClean forced spectators to their feet with a powerful kick to the goal that resulted in a rebound off the goal post, which Olivia Haass shot into the goal.

The second quarter ended with a score of 1-0, DHS in lead. A few minutes after halftime, a DHS ball gone astray swooshed into the laps of benched Elk Grove players. After a few chuckles and apologies, DHS got back into the groove with two more consecutive goals.

Freshman Sophia Hernandez kicked off the fourth quarter, literally, with a powerful goal. DHS continued to rule the field with an additional five goals, ending the game 8-0.

Sophomore Meghan Balderama reflected on the game by saying, “I think we finished the season off really well. Some of the Elk Grove girls were kind of pushy, but we fought through it!”

Teammate, Ju-a Son who supported DHS from the bench due to a hip injury, agreed that the game went well, and emphasized it’s importance, “We made our 99th goal, we really want to make 100, I hope I will be able to help make it happen.”
