Upcoming Dixon May Fair headliners include Snoop Dogg, Kelly Pickler

Each spring, when Dixon High School sophomore Ceci Gutierrez starts to stress out about her upcoming final exams, there is always something to ease her mind.
The Dixon May Fair, which has entertained locals annually since 1875, comes at the perfect time for students struggling through the last stretch of a long school year. This year California’s longest continually-running fair will take place from May 9 to 13 at the Dixon Fairgrounds and will feature a variety of big-name musical acts, including Snoop Dogg, The English Beat and Kellie Pickler.
“The best part of May Fair is that its really close to the end of the school year, like, right before finals, and it’s a really fun weekend to just get your mind off things and hang out with your friends,” Gutierrez said. “I’m 16, and I’ve been going to the fair for as long as I can remember.”
This year, Gutierrez will get things started early, as rapper Snoop Dogg will open the five-day fair with a performance on Wednesday, May 9. The hip-hop legend’s appearance has captivated Davis-based fans such as Emerson Jr. High freshman Claire Buhlman, who said, “Snoop Dogg is the bomb. I listen to his ‘shiznit’ all the time.”
As always, concert tickets are sold separately but include admission to the fair.
The music isn’t the only thing Gutierrez is excited about—she claims “the pink lemonades are the best,” and that “you can’t beat the greasy, deep-fried everything that you eat at fairs!” Gutierrez specifically recommends the corn dogs and funnel cakes.
Other popular attractions include a demolition derby, carnival rides, animal shows and art exhibits. This year’s theme is “This Is My Country.”
Rest assured, Gutierrez will see plenty of familiar faces at the fairgrounds. “The whole school goes unless you’re grounded!” Gutierrez said, laughing.
