Hogwarts houses for homecoming theme
The student government at Davis High gave students the opportunity to vote on the theme for homecoming, hoping to get more students involved in other aspects of homecoming as well. “It makes me really excited and want to go,” sophomore Danielle Newman said.
Not being able to choose the theme for homecoming was an issue for several years and many students were unhappy with the themes that were chosen for them. This year, the student government allowed the students to vote for their favorite of five theme choices.
“I was really excited when I saw the students wanted to make it a school wide vote,” adviser Eric Morgan said.
“At first there were like, 20 themes, but we narrowed it down to five,” said Annie Leck, member of the student government and the homecoming committee. The final five voting choices were Cities, Olympic Games, Blockbuster movies, Hogwarts, and Travel Through the Ages.
Hogwarts won the most votes, making it the homecoming theme. “I’m a big Harry Potter fan, so getting to choose was great!” sophomore Aydan Prime said.
Student government is also working to improve the “carnival” that provides entertainment for people waiting in line to get into the football game. According to Leck, the carnival will contain games, food vendors and a variety of booths.
Other changes to homecoming are the semi-formal dress code for the dance, food served inside of the stadium during the football game and possibly a spirit king and queen in addition to homecoming royalty.
