Homecoming shutout: Davis beats Laguna Creek for the homecoming win
With an eruption of cheers from the stands and the field, the final buzzer sounds on homecoming night, the final score 27-0, Davis High.
Davis High played the Laguna Creek Cardinals Friday night at Ron and Mary Brown Stadium for Davis High’s homecoming game. The Blue Devils shut out the Cardinals with a final score of 27-0, bringing them back from a 72- 7 loss last week.
The game began with an early punt block from Kevin Sorensen, and only improved as the game unfolded.
Davis High’s defense held back the Cardinals, allowing them only 119 yards, while stacking up five sacks and an interception from Quinn Williams.
Head Coach Steve Smyte was impressed with the defensive effort “it’s the best defense I’ve seen since I’ve been here” Smyte said.
The Blue Devil’s offensive line controlled the line of scrimmage, allowing for four Davis High touchdowns. Two from Austin Lampley, who had a total of 71 rushing yards and nine carries. The other two scores coming from Sophomore Wally Perez.
One of the most inspirational moments of the game came when Junior Alex Totah was put in, and cheered on by chants from members of the crowd and his team, resembling a scene from the movie Rudy.
After the crowd pleasing win Smyte was happy with the total team effort “It wasn’t a one-man show tonight,” said Smyte
Next week the 5-3 Blue Devils will face off against the 3-5 Grant Pacers. With a possibility of making it to the playoffs this year “at this point we control our own destiny,” Smyte Said.
