For the Blue Devil’s JV football team, winning the homecoming game on Friday Oct. 19 against Laguna Creek was not only an overwhelming win, but also a positive experience for their first homecoming as a team.
With a blowout score of 42-6, the team came together to play in harmony in order to achieve one goal, winning the big game.
“They’re a young team, so for many of them this was their first exposure to the experience. I hope that while they got to see the tradition and the feel of it all, this [win] added that extra special punctuation for their homecoming,” head coach Mike Satre said.
Satre said that the team executed what they had planned on executing, and that it worked.
“We knew we could take advantage of our speed and get to the edges, and we did. We thought we could throw on them and we were able to do that as well.” Satre said .
The game went smoothly for the Blue Devils, with touchdowns from Talek Deary, Josh Greenfield, Nate Curtis, Bailey Yarrow and two from Cole Morse. Laguna Creek was scoreless until the team got its first touchdown in the fourth quarter.
The Blue Devils had expected to do well against Laguna Creek, but they had expected the results to be closer.
“I didn’t expect it to be that big of a difference, but we did a really good job, especially on shutting them out on defense and getting defensive scores,” halfback Bailey Yarrow said.
