It’s that time of season again. Students are gathering together their teams for the annual dodgeball intramural tournament hosted by Student Government. This year, the dodgeball committee is striving to smooth over the kinks from last year.

Although the tournament is meant to be fun and enjoyable, last year, competitiveness led to rowdiness, which created issues.

As a result, this year’s dodgeball coordinator Abraham Yacob says, “We are a lot stricter with behavior.”

That includes a two strike warning where teams can be kicked out of league for excessive disruptiveness.

Another issue raised last year was the length of the season.

Last year’s coordinator, senior Kevin Sorenson, credited the extended length to the individual requests of each team.

“Some people wanted a long [season], some people wanted a short one, some people wanted double elimination tournaments, some people wanted single elimination tournaments,” Sorenson said.

This year, the rule has changed so that “all the teams choose how they want the tournament schedule to be,” senior Yacob said. Each team will be able to choose their game day. The schedule will also be less flexible, so if a team is not able to make their set game day, it will have to forfeit.

The season will be limited to 5 weeks with an extra week in case of cancellations

The applications to register a dodgeball team of 6-9 members are due on Dec. 14 in C-4.
