Four minutes into the first quarter, and the score was 16-0 in this blowout game versus Laguna Creek on January 15. The DHS Varsity women consecutively stole the ball and scored 8 points in a row, and senior Ashleigh Vandenbrink achieved four steals herself in this amazing start.
The DHS Varsity women’s team defeated Laguna Creek in a ruthless 78-19 point game.
The astonishing start to the game got them steamrolling, allowing them to achieve an astonishing 18 point lead in the first quarter, and a 41 point lead after the first half.
“We finished layups, and worked really well together as a team,” Vandenbrink said. She played especially well, scoring 10 points for her team.
The weak offense of Laguna Creek was no match for the DHS’ complete defensive dominance. Time after time, Laguna Creek’s shooters were shut down by the ferociously dominant DHS team.
“We shot really well, like we usually do, we have a 55 shooting percentage, which is really high, especially for a high school.”
This win was not unexpected though, as most of the players expected to win, but were worried about the game on Friday.
“We just need to come out ready to play on Friday,” head coach Karen Foster said. For on Friday night, the DHS women’s varsity team is heading up against Monterey Trail, who is a much tougher opponent.
