With a close first half, Monterey Trail Mustangs started to take off in the third quarter, leaving the DHS JV women’s basketball team behind at 23-37. But during the last quarter of the Jan. 18 game, the Devils stepped up their offense to close the score at 39-42.
“Overall, we were a little soft […], but we did come back and make it a tight game. They played really well; they just waited till the fourth quarter,” JV coach Kalyca Seabrook said.
The Blue Devils had expected to play a tough game against Monterey Trail, so some were even surprised at the outcome of the game.
“They’re a pretty tough team, […] I think we came out a lot closer than we expected, although we wish we could’ve won,” sophomore Jamie Bautista said.
Sophomore Alaina King says that the team needs to work on being more aggressive and to start the game off strong.
Bautista agrees, “We need to work on coming out hard and not slacking off in the very beginning. Before we go out into the game we should come out strong and expect to play our game no matter how good or bad [the other team] is.”
The Blue Devils will play their next game away on Tuesday Jan. 22, against Franklin High School.
