Davis High teens enjoy Whole Earth

When the smell of henna fills the air, you cannot turn your head without a glimpse of tie-dye, and you cannot throw away your trash without dissecting it into twelve categories, you know you are at Whole Earth. Every year the Whole Earth Festival comes to Davis, a celebration that many Davis High students are eager to attend.

For junior Chelsea Sacramento, there is just no one thing she can say.

“I enjoy everything about Whole Earth! The vibe is really relaxed and everyone’s happy,” Sacramento said, “It’s such an easy environment for anyone to feel comfortable.”

It seemed like everyone was feeling comfortable that weekend, a guy was tromping around in moccasins and shorts and the girls in their long skirts and beaded crop tops, with a flower crown in their hair.

Juniors Maite Knorr-Evans and Yasmin Kouchesfahani come to the festival every year. Kouchesfahani said her favorite part is the dancing, while Knorr-Evans chose the wings.

“There’s not that many crazy harmful people it’s just a bunch of chill people,” Kouchesfahani said.

The two then proceeded on with their other favorite Whole Earth activity, and continued to look at the booths.

The booths lined the quad, each one filled with unique hand crafted merchandise, ranging from the well-known jewelry or soap bars to items you could not find anywhere else. There was a variety of booths at Whole Earth.  Some offered face painting or henna for those who wanted a little decoration for their skin.

When the sun began to sink the nighttime entertainment rolled around. As the shop owners began to pack up the music kept on playing into the night.

Sacramento’s favorite part about the festival was the fire dancing. “It was unreal,” she said.

Sacramento enjoyed this year, as she does every year she said.
