As the sun fell from east to west, Davis High students watched time run out on their senior year.
The annual event, organized by Student Government, took place at Nugget Fields, where many of the students had played AYSO soccer as children.
Students began gathering at 7 p.m. to sign yearbooks, waiting for the sun to set at 8:27 p.m.
“I thought it was fun,” senior Monica LeFlore said. “It was a really good opportunity for people to have a fun last night together.”
Some seniors stayed long after the sun had set, hanging on to the light.
“I’m excited and also–it’s rather bittersweet,” senior David Matthews said. “It’s sad to think of not seeing all these people […] but I’m also excited to go out into the real world and live my life.”
As the evening star appeared, the last seniors got into their cars and left, and one by one their lights winked into the darkness.
The actual last day of school is on June 6. Graduation takes place at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, June 7. Tickets are required.
