The Davis High School women’s varsity and freshmen/sophomore cross country teams both beat Elk Grove at an away meet on Tuesday, Sept 10. After a summer filled with practices, it seems that the hard work has paid off.
Junior Jeanne-Marie McPherson was able to scrape two seconds off of her goal time for a ninth overall. Her biggest goal is to improve her pacing before the varsity team’s next race.
The women’s freshmen/sophomore team also came out on top with a win over Elk Grove.
Running for the men’s freshmen/sophomore team was sophomore Kellen Browning. Browning ran the 2.2 mile Granite Regional Park Course significantly faster than his time last year at the meet against Elk Grove.
Although the freshmen/sophomore team did not quite pull out a win, Browning received the bronze medal for his run, second best for DHS. “I feel like I ran as hard as I could today, but I do wish I could have somehow gone faster near the finish line.”
The men’s varsity team beat Elk Grove along with the women’s teams.
The next meet for the runners will be Saturday, Sept 14 at the Sacramento State Hornet Jamboree.
