Spirit Week launches into action this week, Oct.7-11, and students will have the opportunity to show off their school spirit.
The week will consist of five differently themed dress-up days: America Monday, Tie-Dye Tuesday, Western Wednesday, Throwback Thursday and Freakishly Blue Friday.
Spirit Week is all in conjunction with homecoming week, which culminates with the homecoming game on the night of Oct. 4.
“Homecoming is a fun season of stress-relief and school togetherness early on in the year, and the Spirit Week is just another part of that,” Sophomore Senate member Teddy Knox said.
Knox plans on participating in all of the Spirit Week themes, including wearing 1970s clothing respective of his class decade and going all out in “blue spirit gear” on Friday to showcase his school spirit.
“The idea of the spirit week is to boost school spirit and create a sense of unity on campus,” Knox said.
Knox is not the only one planning on showing Blue Devil pride. Junior Devon Hayakawa is taking advantage of this Spirit Week to dress up in clothes she wouldn’t wear on a normal basis.
“I’m dressing up because it’s super fun to dress up. I’d dress up all the time if it meant not getting judged,” Hayakawa said.
Hayakawa has already mapped out her wardrobe for the week, hoping to kick out her “dad’s old hippie stuff” for Tie-Dye Tuesday and wearing “cray amounts of blue” on Freakishly Blue Friday.
Hayakawa hopes more people will join her in this opportunity to show pride at Davis High.
“It shows a lot of school spirit, which in my opinion is something DSHS needs to work on. It’s an opportunity everyone should take to be full of school spirit,” Hayakawa said.
