Davis teens hot to trot

Rain or shine, on Nov. 23 locals of all ages will flock together at Davis’ Civic Center Field to participate in a community tradition and work off Thanksgiving dinner in advance.
The 26th annual Davis Turkey Trot, put on by the A Change of Pace Foundation, will feature four adult races and four kids’ races. The adult races—the Half Marathon, Half Marathon Relay, 10k and 5k—are open to people of all ages, while the kids’ races are only available to those 12 years or younger.
The event will kick off with the Half Marathon at 8:00 a.m. The 5K Run/Walk will start 15 minutes later, followed by the 10K Run/Walk beginning at 8:40. These events will be timed using RFID chip technology for accurate timing and live tracking.
The Kids’ Fun Runs will start a couple of hours later—the mile at 11:00 a.m., the half-mile at 11:20 and the quarter-mile at 11:35. The last event of the day, the Toddler Trot 200 Yard Dash, is scheduled to start at 11:45, although times are approximate.
Davis High junior Rachel Foley and sophomore Andi Jackson are teammates and will run the 10K race together. Foley, who is a two-time Turkey Trot veteran, encourages everyone participate.
“People should sign up and run because it’s really fun and you always feel super great after you finish,” Foley said.
Last-minute registration is still an option—it opens at 6:30 on race morning and costs 35 dollars.
Jackson, like Foley, is looking forward to the race, and is doing it to help with conditioning and staying in shape.
“I have been running intervals, something we plan on doing, and increasing the distance I go,” Jackson said about her preparation. “Every day, or every other day, I add on distance.”
Jackson added that she hopes people decide to participate in one of the races because it not only is beneficial at the individual level, but also for the community as a whole. The Turkey Trot is festive and helps bring the community together.
The event will also feature live music, arts and crafts, refreshments and samples from vendors. All runners will receive t-shirts upon registration.
