The IPAB theater played host to the annual Mr. Blue Devil competition on May 8. Davis High’s elite male specimens showed off a range of talents from performing duck calls to making juice in competition for the prestigious title of Mr. Blue Devil.
The show consisted of six different sections, opening with an original dance sequence performed by the guys and choreographed by orchestrator of the event, junior Kinsey Nelson.
“The group dance is my favorite part for sure. It’s really funny especially since they all take it in their unique ways. It’s hilarious,” Nelson said
Next came the introduction of the contestants from seniors and Masters of Ceremonies Brooke Palmer and Tara Mullen. This year’s competitors were Jake Devarennes, Jordan Weston, Brendan MacDonald, Andrija Marquez, Rami Rashmawi, Andy Miller, Jeremy Snow and Ben Crook.
The talent section came next, in which the contestants showed off their most extraordinary and sometimes unusual talents. Ben Crook, who won the competition and the title of Mr. Blue Devil, performed an original song on the piano that he composed and dedicated to his mom.
“When I was performing that song, I felt pretty free. It felt good to be up there,” Crook said.
The contestants took the stage for a final time with their escorts, and viewers proceeded to vote on their favorite performance. Brendan MacDonald came in second, and Andy Miller came in third.
