In the second football game of the year on September 12th, the varsity football team take a quick break in the play to discuss strategies to beat Vintage High. The closely matched teams and beautiful ambiance resulted in a stadium packed with both student and parent spectators. With senior Emily Rogers directing and alumni Nathan De Ropp, who came back to play for fun, on trumpet, DHS Pep Band provided lively pump-up music throughout the game. The Blue Devils and the Vintage High Chargers set up before a play by facing each other across the line of scrimmage. Vintage High players pile on after a tackle. If you look closely, you can see that there are actually five Vintage players who make up the white blob. . With his high-tech headset and careful watch of the play, assistant coach and DHS grad Marty Morse looks as if he came straight out of the NFL to help coach the Devils. At the beginning of the second quarter, one of the referees makes the motion to stop the play for a personal foul. At the time, the score was 13 to 7, with Vintage in the lead. . Davis High senior Alex Levine lunges to tackle Vintage High’s Michael Jankiewicz during a chaotic moment in the game. The Blue Devil cheerleading squad shows off their new routine with a pyramid finale during the halftime show. Senior Mo Roeckl-Navazio, sophomore Nina Langley, and junior Camille Johnson, the flyers, or the girls on top, form the top of the pyramid. To finish off the halftime show, DHS Dance Team woos the crowd with their hair-flips and midair splits. On this September evening, the stands are nearly filled completely with fans eager to catch up with their friends and occasionally glance at the football field. Juniors Kathleen Pan, Camille Johnson, and Kalysta Holder pump up the crowd with high kicks and energy-filled cheers, not to mention sparkly pom-poms. Junior Nick Amoah is the last in the long line of Blue Devils to politely, though grudgingly, shake hands with the Chargers. It was a tough game for DHS, as the team lost 13 to 32 to the Chargers.
